They say you shouldn't wear white after Labor Day, so even though I don't really use a lot of WHITE white ribbon, I thought this weekend's market would be a good time to trade in my favorite ecru shade for some brown. The result was surprisingly autumnal. Is summer really this far along?
And because I couldn't quit with the ecru ribbon cold turkey, I also made a few earrings with it (below).

I love all of these, especially the comb!!
ReplyDeleteMouthwatering bracelets, I have a couple of big parties coming up, and I would LOVE to wear some, but I just don't think international shipping would do them any favours. Boo hoo...
ReplyDeleteThanks, ladies! It really is a shame that both of you are beyond the reach of the post (Belinda, because I lack the where-withal to negotiate the quarantine logistics of shipping plant materials internationally - interstate was tricky enough! - and Liz, because you are at sea).
ReplyDeleteBut Belinda, I am sure your parties will be lovely regardless. Perhaps you will try your hand at making a few bracelets from your beautiful flowers? And Liz, you will get your comb when you get yourself back here. Wikki wikki.
Upon reading Urban Dictionary's definition for "wikki wikki", which surprisingly isn't actually all that inappropriate, I decided I'd better clarify that I mean the term in Liz's maritime dad's sense, i.e. "in a hurry". Does anyone else say that?
ReplyDeleteUmm, no! We say, chop chop!
ReplyDeleteMight have to start. Especially when marshalling my 4 out of the door to school... "Wikki Wikki Kids, right now, Wikki on out that door!!" Could work.
Yes, it's worth a try. But when your kids (or husband or friends) question your sanity, keep in mind for your defense that "wikki wikki" isn't really an Americanism but a sailor-ism. Or maybe it's just a Mike-ism. He's a bit eccentric.
ReplyDeleteWikki wikki is Hawaiian for hurry up, according to dad :-) I look forward to that comb, thank you very much. Also, kudos on the brown ribbons - they convey the flavor of the approaching season! Have you begun the search for some good silk ones?
ReplyDeleteAlas, the search has begun and still continues (does anyone know a good vendor for 1/4 inch organic silk or other environmentally friendly ribbon options??). In the meantime I am assuaging my conscience by carefully conserving and reusing ribbon from and for the farmer's market items. But someday, yo, I will use all happy ribbons all the time.
ReplyDeleteI love the acorns!! So very cute. The hair clip is very nice too
ReplyDeleteThanks Green Berry! I'm glad you like them. I took a look at your lovely blog and see that you are doing fall proud with some beautiful autumnal arrangements.
